Our research
We offer a range of research packages to investigate and document your family history. Our packages allow us to source a large volume of fascinating information for you and paint a vivid picture of what life for your ancestors was really like.
Introductory search - This is an exploratory search into the statutory period only (post 1855). For a comprehensive family history report, our more popular single and dual family line searches are recommended. Our all inclusive fee for an introductory search is only £150.
Single family line search - This is a detailed search which traces a single Scottish family line as far back as possible within the time allocated through the searching of statutory records, census returns, old parish records and many other information sources as appropriate. Please see our example single family line search report to view typical results. Results are normally returned within four weeks. Our all-inclusive fee for a standard search is £250.
Dual family line search - This offers the same as a standard search, but researches both parental family lines. Please see our example dual family line search report to view typical results. Results are normally returned within six to eight weeks. Our one-off fee for a comprehensive search is £450.
Please note that prices for other packages, tailored to your specific requirements, can be provided upon request.
Upon completion of an investigation you will receive from us a professionally presented folder containing:
- an attractive, detailed and easy to understand report explaining all of the research results;
- copies of the original records and documents we've discovered throughout the research process;
- a pedigree chart clearly illustrating your family tree;
- suggestions for further research; and
- a CD containing digital versions of all of the above with a GEDCOM 5.5 file containing all of the genealogy information found.
Our fees reflect the time and skills required to properly carry out the work, and also cover all costs incurred by us in accessing historical records and visiting locations. The price quoted is the total prices that you will pay - there are no additional or hidden charges. All fees are in Pounds Sterling (GBP). You can access a currency converter here.
To commission a search, simply contact us with your requirements and we will confirm your order. We will at that stage clearly outline the information we require from you in order to get started with the work straight away.
Please note that payment must be made in advance of any work. Payment can be made by cheque, by bank transfer or by credit/debit card via PayPal (Thistle Ancestry is a fully verified PayPal business account holder). All available payment options will be clearly detailed for you when you commission a search from us.
