Thistle Ancestry collects and processes information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. We will use your personal information for the purpose for which you provided it, such as responding to your enquiry or order request. We may also use your contact details to communicate with you and send you offers about our products and services which we think may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to receive any ongoing communication from us, or wish to update the details we hold in our records for you, please contact us to let us know.

Specification of services
Our services include the carrying out of professional ancestry research and the production of personalised records of our research findings for you. The range of personalised family history research services we offer is explained in detail across number of pages on our website. In summary, however, our main offering is the choice of three tiered family history research packages: an introductory search; a single family line search; and a dual family line search. We can also carry out special research commissions and photography work, to meet the particular information needs of our many clients.
Quality of work
Research will always be conducted from original source material. Where necessary, more than one source will be consulted to prove your ancestry. Original documents will be included with your research report as far as is possible. When this is not possible, due to copyright restriction, a full and accurate transcription shall be made. All source material will be cited in the research report.
Fees for services
Fees quoted by us reflect the time and skills required to properly carry out the work for you, and also cover all costs incurred by us in accessing historical records and visiting locations. All fees are in Pounds Sterling (GBP). Our fees include the cost of first class Royal Mail postal delivery of reports and data to locations within the UK. We reserve the right to revise our fee structure at any time and without notice.
Payment
Payment of fees must always be made in advance of any work. Payment of fees can be made by cheque to 'Laura Hughes trading as Thistle Ancestry', by electronic bank transfer or securely online by credit/debit card via PayPal. Payment via PayPal can be made directly online by following the links on the 'Packages & costs' page of our website, or we can send you an email invoice with links to the PayPal website if you would prefer. If you choose not to pay for your order by PayPal, full details of alternative payment options will be provided to you.
Making an order
By making an order for any of our services, you confirm that you have reviewed and satisfied yourself in respect of the specification of services provided by us. When you make an order you enter into a contract with us. All orders will be confirmed within 24 hours of receipt and we will aim to start fulfilling your order straight away. We reserve the right to refuse to supply any individual or company.
Delivery
Due to the specialised nature of our work all delivery estimates are provided as general guidelines. It may take longer than originally estimated for us to complete your order, and if this is the case you will always be given advanced notification of, and a clear reason for, any delay. When an order has been made as a gift for someone else, we make every effort to meet a given deadline when this is feasible (such as a special birthday or anniversary). When this is not possible, we can provide a personalised gift card to let the special person know that the gift is on its way.
Electronic communication
When you send emails to us, you are communicating with us electronically. We may communicate with you by email or by posting notices on our website. For contractual purposes, you consent to receive communications from us electronically and you agree that all agreements, notices, disclosures and other communications that we provide to you electronically satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.
Feedback
You are welcome to submit feedback to us and if you choose to do so we may use such feedback as if it were our property including using it for our marketing purposes.
Alterations to existing orders
We will do all that we can to accommodate changes to your order if required. Please contact us as soon as you can with details of the alterations to the original commission.
Complaints
Customer service is very important to us. If you are dissatisfied with our services in any way, we will endeavour to respond to your complaint, in full, within five working days.
Cancellations and refunds
Thistle Ancestry complies with the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. Because we provide tailored services and personalised goods to the order of our customers, the right to cancel your order, once made, does not automatically apply. We do, however, consider any requests for cancellations, provided that requests are made in writing within seven working days from the day after that on which the customer agreed to enter into a contract with us, and provided that we have not already started fulfilling the order by the time the request to cancel the order is made. If you wish to cancel your order and we agree to the cancellation, a refund will be provided to you as soon as is possible, and in any case within 28 days. If, at any time during the process of fulfilling your order, we find that there is no further prospect of success in obtaining new family history details, we will provide you with the option to accept a refund on the available balance or allow us to begin research on another family line for you.
